INCUBATION
INCUBATION created by Blue Pieta is based on Bhanu Kapil’s book: Incubation a Space for Monsters premiered in April 2023 at Horse Hospital London in conjunction with Prototype Publishing and was commissioned again by Burghley Fisher Literary Festival in September 2023.

‘This book is for all the monsters. This book is for anyone who did not discover, until it was almost too late, that they were beautiful in the eyes of strangers. This book is for anyone who came upon their origin story in a book of fairy tales in a public library. This book is for anyone who, in the middle of their childhood, had the sudden thought: ‘I’m no longer a child.’
- Bhanu Kapil
INCUBATION is a dance-theatre work that draws inspiration from Bhanu Kapil’s poetic work Incubation a Space for Monsters. The performance follows the surreal journey of Kapil’s protagonist Laloo, a girl-monster, who hitchhikes through America. It makes us reflect on what it means to walk into violence and return with love.
The production premiered at Horse Hospital London in April 2023 and headlined the Burghley Fisher Literary Festival in September 2023.
